Patterns don’t have to be
permanent

WRAP and Addictions

WRAP is used by many adults and older teens who want to gain control over powerful urges and unwanted, compulsive behavior patterns. These patterns are often called addictions. They may include:
  • Excess or unwanted drug or alcohol use
  • Uncontrolled gambling or gaming
  • Compulsive sex or pornography use
  • Eating disorders
  • Self-injury
  • Lying a lot
  • Projects

With WRAP, you decide what “wellness” and “recovery” look like for you. Abstinence isn’t required in WRAP. There are no “readiness” requirements for WRAP. If you want to use WRAP, that means you’re ready.

WRAP can be used with any other health and wellness strategies, supports, and treatment programs, including 12-step programs.

You can use WRAP to lessen or prevent feelings and behaviors you don’t want or that bother you, increase the sense of personal choice you have about how you live your life, and create ways to gain support and stay in control of your wellness in ways that don’t include using substances or engaging in other unwanted activities.
